your rights

If you are involved in a motor vehicle accident, no matter if you were the driver, passenger, pedestrian or cyclist, you do have rights.

Whether or not you were at fault for the accident, all Ontario auto insurance policies provide compulsory benefits outlined in the Statutory Accident Benefits Schedule (SABS).  You may be entitled to medical and rehabilitation benefits, income replacement benefits, and even housekeeping and home maintenance expenses.  Your family members and dependents may also be entitled to some benefits even if they were not involved in the accident.

Accident Benefits can be claimed no matter what your legal residence status is in this country.

Strict time limits for applying for benefits are enforced by insurance companies, so it is prudent to be aware of these timelines.  Click here for more detailed information on reporting timelines.

All parties involved have the right to seek legal advice.  A knowledgeable lawyer can help you decipher the insurance system and help you get the maximum compensation.
